"Scouting brings out the best in each of us. Live what you've learned and will continue to learn. Help others to hike the trails, to keep steadfast in the paths of truth, of honor, of duty, that all of you can soar together on eagles' wings. You are part of a mighty army of youth, even a royal army, and every organization, to be successful, has an honored tradition to uphold. May you uphold Scouting's tradition, for it can be as a lighthouse beacon in the world of stormy seas, it can be a motivation to prepare for your role in life, it can be a yardstick against which you measure your accomplishments." ~President Thomas S. Monson--2010

Permission Form

Over the past few months the boys have mentioned that they thought we should post pictures of what our troop has been doing, so in response to their request I will be sending out a permission form.  Things that you can expect to see are pictures and/or videos from campouts, service projects, and other scouting related activities.  We will also be using first names only when describing the pictures/videos, and relating stories or information from the activity.

No pictures, videos, or names will be used until all permission forms are signed and returned.  If you have any questions regarding this please don't hesitate to contact me.

Cabin Campout Update

Please be at the church at 4:15 pm tomorrow afternoon for our campout.  We will be leaving at 4:30 pm.  Do not forget your food assignments for lunch or dinner, and remember to bring your own breakfast.  Also, make sure that you dress appropriately.  We will be at around 5500 ft elevation so you can expect the weather to be colder.  Dress in layers so that you can stay warm, but also shed unnecessary clothing as it warms up.  For the two of you who are MC's on this campout, make sure that you have put some thought into the campfire/morning side program that you are preparing.

As always, if you have any questions please let one of us know.

Cabin Campout

We will be camping this weekend at Brother Moore's cabin.  All of the arrangements will be made at scouts on Wednesday night, except for our departure time which will be posted here on Thursday night after 6pm.  Please come so that assignments and plans can be made with regards to meals and such.  See you all there!

Flags

Brother Heaton is in the process of trying to inventory all of our flags.  Please take any flags that you currently have at your home to his house before we leave for our campout this week.  Thanks!

Flags

This is just to serve as a reminder to all of our scouts: flags go out tomorrow.  This is just a reminder as we talked about all of this last night.  If you do not have flags you need to pick them up from Brother Heaton, long with your new route.  If you do have flags, you still need to contact Brother Heaton to get an updated route.

Veterans Day and Flags

This is just an update on the last post.  Flags need to be delivered and picked up this Friday for Veterans Day.  The flags are currently at Brother Heaton's home, and they will need to be picked up by each young man on Thursday.  Information regarding routes will be distributed at that time as well.  Thank you for your hard work!

Flags and Merit Badge Clinic

This Friday is Veterans Day, and as such flags will need to be delivered.  I will post more information about this as the date gets closer.

On Saturday there is a stake merit badge clinic.  If you are planning on earning your eagle scout award you need to attend this.  They will be starting three required merit badges including Family Life, Personal Fitness, and Personal Management.  These are three of the more challenging merit badges to earn because they require three months worth of tracking information and progress.  This is, without a doubt, the best way to earn these badges (and there is no cost either).

Here is what you need:
A physical--Filled out by your primary care provider (the one from scout camp is sufficient as long as it was within the last year)
A dental exam--Stating that your teeth have been cleaned and cared for
Signed blue cards--3 cards signed by your scout leader
Exercise clothes--You will be doing some running so come prepared to run (shoes, not flip flops...)

Date: 11/12/2011 (this Saturday)
Time: 8:00 am
Place: Williams Field High School football field

Water Creek Trail Campout

Due to my work schedule, we will be meeting at the church at 5pm on Friday.  Please arrive on time and ready to go.  Do not forget to pack light, where your scout shirt for travel, bring breakfast and dinner, and bring all supplies that you will need for this campout.  If you have any questions please contact either myself or Brother Moore.

Flags

As you all know, our scout fundraising project involves delivering flags to people in our neighborhoods.  We are in the process of revamping the program, and as part of that we need to have all of the flags delivered to Brother Heaton's home by the end of this week so that we can assess our inventory.  There will be some things that we need to do in the coming weeks to kick this off, and those things will be addressed at both church and mutual as we have more information.  Our next flag day is Veteran's Day, November 11th, so be prepared to deliver on that day.  You will notice that there is a new label on the sidebar of this blog which details the dates that we will be delivering flags (there will be a total of six days--I will post them all when I have the info).  I will also post the dates on the calendar at the bottom of the blog as well.

Scouts this week will be focused on preparing for our camp out this weekend.  Please come prepared to listen because we will be discussing important information regarding how to make hiking trips enjoyable.  Assignments will also be handed out at scouts for small events that will be taking place on this camp out.

Communication and Camping

Starting this Wednesday we will begin working on the communications merit badge.  Brother Moore's father will be coming to teach us what we need to know, so come prepared to listen and work!

Our camp out this month will take place on October 28th-29th.  We will be leaving from the church as usual.  Time of departure will be discussed at scouts on the 26th of this month.  We will be taking a short hike to our campsite just off of the First Water Trail, so we would like you all to pack light.  Meal preparation will also be addressed on the 26th.

The time originally posted for the court of honor was incorrect.  The actual time will be 7:00pm, today, in the Relief Society room.  Please come dressed in uniform.

Also, scouts has been moved from Wednesday the 28th, to Thursday the 29th at Brother Vincent's house due to schedule conflicts.  Please come at our usual time of 6:45pm.  We will be working on a troop flag.

Busy Weekend

On Friday, September 23rd we will be leaving to go on an overnight campout.  Please arrive at the church before 4:30 so that we can leave on time.  It is possible that our departure time may change due to my work schedule, so please check back here after 6pm on Thursday evening to see if there is any change.  Boys, please make sure that you bring your food assignments! They will be given out on Wednesday at Scouts, as will information about where we are going and what we will be doing.

On Sunday, September 25th at 6 pm in the relief society room we will be having a court of honor.  These typically don’t last longer than one hour.  I would like to encourage each young man to attend in his Scout uniform, and his parents to accompany him to this ceremony.  Every young man has earned at least one award that he will be presented at this court of honor, so please come and support your boys.

Welcome

The goal in creating this website is quite simple: to improve communication between the young men, their parents, and the leaders who are working with them.  Ideally we would like to see every young man earn his Eagle Scout Award.  In my experience I have found that the more the parents are involved and informed, the more likely the young man is to earn this award.  On this site you will see quotes from our current and a couple of previous prophets, expressing some of their beliefs relating to the importance of scouting.  I personally have a testimony of the role that scouting can play in a young man’s life because I know what it has done for me, and I have seen it change young men when they catch the vision.

Now as to what you can expect from this site.  On this site you will see the most up to date information that I can give in relation to what is planned for the young men.  When campouts are scheduled, you will see them posted here.  When courts of honor are scheduled, you will see them posted here.  Information relating to summer camp will be posted here.  Merit badge clinic information will be posted here.  At the bottom of this web page you will find a calendar with events and dates on it.  If you have any questions, please contact me.
Thank you for your time.
