"Scouting brings out the best in each of us. Live what you've learned and will continue to learn. Help others to hike the trails, to keep steadfast in the paths of truth, of honor, of duty, that all of you can soar together on eagles' wings. You are part of a mighty army of youth, even a royal army, and every organization, to be successful, has an honored tradition to uphold. May you uphold Scouting's tradition, for it can be as a lighthouse beacon in the world of stormy seas, it can be a motivation to prepare for your role in life, it can be a yardstick against which you measure your accomplishments." ~President Thomas S. Monson--2010

Patrol Competition

On the 21st of November, the day before Thanksgiving we will be having our Boy Scout Skills patrol competition.  Please come, have fun, and compete.  There will be an award for the winning patrol so make sure that you practice the skills that we worked on at Usery Pass.  For those who didn't attend our campout, aside from missing out on a good time, you missed an opportunity to get some insight as to what this competition is about.
Here is a list of the competitions:
  • Fire building
    • You'll be building a log cabin style fire
  • Fire staring
    • ...without matches, lighters, or boy scout firewater
  • Orienteering
    • You will need to bring your compass
  • Tent set-up
    • Easier and faster than you think
  • Tent breakdown
    • Less of a chore than it sounds
  • Cooking
    • It's gonna be messy
  • Knot tying
    • Here's the cheat sheet
      • Square knot
      • Sheep bend
      • Two half hitches
      • Bowline
      • Taught line
Remember that this competition is not scout versus scout, it is patrol versus patrol.  Come prepared to support your patrol members and help your patrol win.
We will be outside for the entire event so come dressed so that you can stay warm (dress in layers)

Court of Honor

This up coming Sunday, November 18, we are having our last Cour of Honor of 2012.  Please come in uniform regardless of whether or not you expect to receive any awards.  It will most likely be at 7pm at the church in the Relief Society room, but this will be updated for sure on Sunday.

Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day.  As a troop we support Veterans Day by delivering flags to the houses of those who are supporting our troop.  We will be meeting tomorrow morning at 6:30am at the Heaton's to deliver flags.  Please come in uniform. For pick up we will be meeting at the Heaton's at 5:30pm, again come in uniform.  Any and all parental help will be appreciated.
